BOWLS SURREY NEWSLETTER Issue 02/2025

Hello Everyone … we are now less than two months away from the start of our Outdoor season. I hope your club is getting ready and that you are helping in some way or other. 

Every club needs volunteers to run and Bowls Surrey who help the clubs are no different.  Sadly we now do not have an Adminstrator and at the AGM we will also be looking for a General Secretary and a Governance Officer.  PLEASE PLEASE consider giving something back to your County and volunteer to help us.  Charlotte - Communications Officer

Have you got a Member in your Club who has gone 'Above and Beyond'?  Why not nominate them for the ladies Loyal Service Award or the mens Leopard Award.  Nominations must be with John Tucker at secretary@bowlssurrey.com before 31st March.  Further details and the forms can be found on our website.

Is your club celebrating a special birthday this year?  I am organising another 'Special Match' against the Friends of English Bowling and am looking for clubs who would like to celebrate their 'birthday', but who might not be able to host this type of match, to attend.  You can send up to 4 members to this very special and fun match.  Please contact me at BowlsSurrey@gmail.com

Is there something going on in your club?  A recruitment day or a charity event?  Well let me know and I can help promote your event on our Facebook Page. Has something special happened that you think others might be interested in?  For example ... GOOD NEWS The cost to play for the County in matches is going down.  Now £10 or £16 if there is a coach.  Why not apply to play for the County now.

Congratulations to John Tucker our General Secretary who was awarded the Bowls England Certificate of Merit for all of his work with our IT system and within the County.

Bad News ..... Good News
Sadly Dave Aburn has had to cancel his Presidential Tour due to lack of interest.  However Charlottes Presidential Tour is still going ahead and has room for more Tourists.  We are going on a tour called 'Little Trains of the Pyrenees' and have twin and double rooms available.  For more details contact Charlotte at charlotte_emanuel@sky.com  Everyone is welcome you don't even have to be a bowler!

Secretaries
Please ensure that you update your Officers in the Affiliation system.  This is VERY important.

Do you play in County Competitions?  Please respond to the email you should have received regarding the proposed changes to the County timetable.

There will be an EBUA Markers Course on 29th March at Sutton IBC.  Cost £15 for a full days course.  If you want to learn the basics of marking and measuring then this is a great course for bowlers young or old expereienced or new.
