History is made yet again!!!

Friday 29th May 2026 saw the Men's Senior fours Semi final & the Women's Senior fours Semi final being played at the same time on the same green. Up until now all competitions except for mixed competitions have been played on separate greens. This will now apply to all semi finals this year.

This again shows we are truly a UNIFIED county.

The venue was Horley BC & the winners going through to the finals are shown below.

HISTORY MAKERS BOWLS SURREY

Surrey are the first county to enter two teams in the very competitive Senior Home Counties League. Under the rules they had to play each other in the first game of the season. This turned out to be a very tight match with the "Surrey" winning by seven shots over the "Surrey Leopards"

By entering two teams it allows more players to play at a higher level, it also provides the Middleton Cup / Balcomb Manager & selectors with more people to consider.

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Please see below two photos of the first match under the English Women's Bowling Association (EWBA) between Surrey & Sussex in 1932.

Will Johns a member at Purley Bury and the great nephew of Clara Johns was shown these photos by Sheron Mitchell, he said that Clara presented the EWBA with the "Johns Trophy" which is still a National competition now played under Bowls England.

International Selection: Amar to Represent Portugal!

We are thrilled to share some truly "Big News" from the international stage. Our very own Amar Nachimuthu has been officially selected to represent the Portugal National Bowls Team at the upcoming European Bowls Championships in Wales this September 2026!
Following the trials held at the Alvor Bowls Club in the Algarve, Amar received the news of his selection on February 18th. He is currently pre-selected to compete in both the Singles and Triples disciplines. While the final team combinations remain fluid to adapt to the Welsh greens, Amar is ready for the challenge.
Amar noted, "Personally, I’ve always enjoyed playing as Lead. However, I’m more than happy to slot in wherever the team needs me to bring home the best result for the country."
The European Bowls Championships will take place at Llandrindod Wells, from September 19th to 26th.
It is a significant honour for both Croydon Bowling Club and Bowls Surrey to have representation on the international stage. Please join us in wishing Amar the very best of luck as he prepares to head to Wales!
