BOWLS SURREY NEWSLETTER
Issue 6/2026
Wow its June, how are you all coping with the weather? Too hot, too windy, too cold, too wet? Are we ever really satisfied. Well, whatever the weather I hope you are enjoying your bowls. Charlotte
This year we have changed the way that we run the competitions in the County. Which means that we have already got our first lot of players that have qualified for Leamington. Also for the first time we have had ladies and men's semis and finals playing beside each other on the same greens. Congratulations to the Southey ladies and Merrow men who have won the senior fours and are going to the National Finals. Also to Old Coulsdon & Woodbridge Hill men and Southey and Sutton ladies who are in the finals of the Triples. Follow our Facebook page or check out the website to keep up to date with all of the results
Bowls Surrey would like to introduce you to our 4 new Junior Section Assistant Team Managers. Sam Cates (Redhill), Dennis Hennessy (Southey), Nicola Jenkins (Temple) & David Rose (Egham) who is also the new Junior Administrator.
Thank you all for volunteering
Our first Bowls Surrey hoodie order arrived and almost all 107 hoodies have been delivered.
I am placing Order 2 on 13th June which will arrive before the National Finals. If you wish to order a Hoodie please email me before then. Secretary@BowlsSurrey.com
Umpires Corner: Basics. Answers to last months questions …
1) Who tosses the coin? It really doesn’t matter! Its 50/50 either way. 2) Where should the mat be placed on a trial end? On the green in a legal position. 3) When does a game start. The game starts at the delivery of the jack on the first end. 4) Can you play a game using more than 1 set of bowls? No, but you can use as many sets as you have bowls in the trial ends.
Umpires Corner .. Even more basics!
When does a game end?? I've seen too many cards with incorrect end scores on them.
For a singles game that is first to 21 shots the game ends at 21 shots and should not have 22 or 23 (for example) at the end.
All other 'ends' run comps MUST end when it is mathematically impossible for one of the sides to win however the game can be conceded before that stage.
You do not HAVE to play all ends in a knock out competition. You can graciously give up.
